Background of the Study
Cross-border trade policies, including tariffs, customs regulations, and trade agreements, play a significant role in shaping logistics operations. Effective policies can streamline trade processes, while restrictive regulations often create bottlenecks and increase operational costs (WTO, 2023). For BUA Group, a leading conglomerate with logistics operations in Katsina State, cross-border trade policies significantly influence its efficiency and profitability.

Katsina State, located near Nigeria's northern border, serves as a critical hub for cross-border trade. However, challenges such as inconsistent policies, bureaucratic delays, and security issues hinder smooth logistics operations (Aliyu & Musa, 2024). This study examines the influence of cross-border trade policies on logistics operations at BUA Group, providing insights into policy impacts and potential improvements.

Statement of the Problem
Cross-border trade policies have a profound impact on logistics operations, influencing costs, efficiency, and competitiveness. Despite its strategic location, BUA Group faces challenges such as delays in customs clearance, high tariffs, and regulatory inconsistencies in Katsina State. These issues negatively affect logistics operations and overall business performance (Ibrahim et al., 2024).

While existing research highlights the role of trade policies in global logistics, limited studies focus on their specific impacts in Nigeria. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the influence of cross-border trade policies on BUA Group’s logistics operations.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the influence of cross-border trade policies on logistics operations at BUA Group in Katsina State.
  2. To identify the challenges associated with cross-border trade policies in Katsina State.
  3. To recommend strategies for improving logistics operations in response to cross-border trade policies.

Research Questions

  1. How do cross-border trade policies influence logistics operations at BUA Group?
  2. What challenges are associated with cross-border trade policies in Katsina State?
  3. What strategies can improve logistics operations in response to cross-border trade policies?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Cross-border trade policies do not significantly influence logistics operations at BUA Group.
  2. H0: Challenges do not significantly affect logistics operations in response to cross-border trade policies.
  3. H0: Proposed strategies do not significantly improve logistics operations in response to cross-border trade policies.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the influence of cross-border trade policies on logistics operations at BUA Group in Katsina State. The research is limited to the logistics sector in Katsina State and does not extend to other regions or industries. Constraints include the variability of trade policies and access to detailed company-specific data.

Definitions of Terms
